This Week..

Yes, this is a completely random picture of my All Stars.

…Mostly consisted of work related things as I am desperately trying to finish a conference paper asking myself what on earth I am trying to say..

….More work stuff as I had my first annual progress review (the first year of a PhD over here is basically a pilot year: you can get fired if you do not show enough progress) and I got a contract renewal [insert very big YAY! here]!! This means another year of doing what I love best and probably being very stressed out about it all at once :-P

…I finished my first book for the Classics Club: Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, and also read This is Paradise.

…I did some comfort watching of this modern interpretation of Pride and Prejudice* (has anyone else seen it, because I haven’t come across many opinions on it?) and the latest version of Jane Eyre.

…I went to see The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. And um, I’m not going to give you a full report, but with 0.0 expectations it actually turned out quite enjoyable; it is corny as hell and yes it made me giggle more than swoon because the romance scenes are SO predictable – made even worse by the choice of music, but it has that compulsive Paranormal YA quality (you know, hot boys, swooning romance – even if that all kind of (threathens to) fall apart later). It was the kind of story I needed right now: no stress involved at all. I am almost tempted to pick up the books.

What was your week like?

  1. Woop woop woop #thesischeersquad re the doctoral renewal!! That is great news!
Mortal Instruments – don’t bother with the books :)

  2. I love your shoes :) Yay on the contract renewal, and I’m waiting on my daughter to ask me to take her to see Mortal Instruments. Rotten Tomatoes didn’t rate it all that highly, so I’m not going to suggest it but she had her eyeball on it when she saw the trailer.

  3. Congrats on the PhD contract renewal! Fab news :D

  4. seems like you have had a great week reading wise Iris ,all the best stu

  5. Loving the allstars :)

  6. Congrats on your renewal! My week was dull by comparison – lots of post-holiday laundry and chores to do. Not a lot of reading but catching up (very late) on all the episodes of West Wing that I’ve missed.

  7. Congrats on what sounds like a pretty awesome week.

My week was just a lot of work too. Not nearly as much reading as I wish I had done.

  8. Congratulations on the contract renewal!! :-)

  9. Hahaha, City of Bones sounds delightful. I’ll probably wait to catch it on HBO Go or whatever, though, so I can watch it and drink at the same time. I bet I will enjoy its corny and hilarious qualities even more if I am drinking a G&T at the same time.

YAY to your contract renewal! That’s wonderful news!

  10. My week was spent on reading… 4 books at the same time! It is so uncommon of me.

By the way, I love your sneakers :)

  11. Amy @ My Friend Amy
