A Dutch Literature in Review Database

As part of Dutch Lit Month, I would like to set up a central place where people can go to find reviews of Dutch Literature books.* Having such a central place would enable people to browse for potential titles they would like to read if they are curious about Dutch literature, without having to endlessly google book blogs in the hope of finding the often sporadically available reviews of Dutch books.

If you have written a review of a Dutch literature title, and have written said post in English, then please feel free to enter the details by filling out the form. I will use said details for wrap up posts during this month, and the info will become publicly available to browse later this month.

I have included four required questions (Title, Author, URL, Blog) and have provided a number of others based on which I hope to provide a better overview of what is available, including questions on genre, themes/setting, and the author profile. The latter questions are not mandatory.

You can find the form here.

I will publish the database later this month, as I want to be able to gauge how it is working out and to keep an eye on potential spam before I make it public.

Please feel free to return to the form anytime you have written a post or review of a title during Dutch Lit Month, or anytime afterwards.

*Again, with the same definition, or so you will, lenient guidelines that are given here: Dutch literature is contained to books written in the Dutch language. The Dutch language is taken as larger than that spoken in the Netherlands, and may encompass Flemish, or books from the former Dutch colonies that were written in Dutch. Literature can be understood to include both fiction and non-fiction, and books for all ages, ranging from children’s picture books to adult literary fiction.

In setting up a review database, this blog is following the example of Amy Reads for Nigerian literature, and Presenting Lenore for Dystopian February.

  1. Good idea, Iris. Do you want us to populate the database with reviews written prior to this month’s efforts?

  2. After you introduced me to the books on Netgalley (I’m hoping there will still be some next month when I have more time) I realised how difficult it can be to find reviews, so I think this is a great idea.

  3. Oh this is a wonderful idea. I think I have only ever read one Dutch book so I look forward to dipping into this database for suggestions. :)

  11. Hi Iris, sorry my review of The Tea Lords (see http://anzlitlovers.com/2012/07/01/the-tea-lords-by-hella-s-haasse/) is a little late, I spent a long time thinking about it. I’ve entered the details on the data-based.
    Cheers, Lisa

One of the things I love about book blogging is that it enables conversation. Please don't hesitate to share your thoughts!
