Dewey’s Read-a-Thon is Here!

24 Hour Read-A-ThonI want to wish you all a happy read-a-thon today!

I signed up last minute: last night before going to sleep. I am not sure if I will be able to participate fully. That is to say, I know for sure that I won’t be able to do so. I will be attending a concert tonight (Blood Red Shoes!) and then B. and I will be driving over to his parents.  I am cheating a little, as I will be starting early. I want to get at least a few hours of reading in (hopefully more than just a few!). I am nostalgic for those two times I participated so fully in the event, but the last two read-a-thons were planned at dates that I simply did not have the time, and this one is not perfect either. But, you know, it is all about being part of the event in spirit, right? And so, I will try to read today, hopefully visit some blogs, and I will be thinking of all of you while singing along at the concert.

I am not exactly sure what I will be reading yet, but at the very least I am hoping to read The Foxes Come at Night by Cees Nooteboom, which is a short story collection.

Let me know if you will be participating, and what you will be reading, and I will try to visit your blog sometime during the event to see how you’re doing.

Read-a-thon updates during the day:

11 am (GMT+2; 3 hours before official start)
Hours read: 2
Books finished: 1 (The Foxes Come at Night)
Pages: 144

3 pm (GMT+2; read-a-thon officially started an hour ago)
Hours read: 1 (3 total)
Books finished: 1 (2 total, Julia)
Pages: 90 (234 total)
I accidentally fell asleep for a while (o, oh), but I am blaming a rather sleepless night.  I did not read much in the past 4 hours, but I *did* schedule two posts for books finished today, and visited a few blogs.

6 pm (GMT+2; 4 hours into read-a-thon)
Hours read: 2 (5 total)
Books finished: 1 (3 total, The Finishing School)
Pages: 156 (390 total)
I think that’s it for tonight before dinner, and for the rest of the night. I might read some more tomorrow morning, but I’m not sure. I finished a Muriel Spark for Simon and Harriet‘s Muriel Spark week that starts this monday. This means I finished reading 3 books today: The Foxes Come at Night, Julia, and The Finishing School. Out of these, I had begun reading Julia before, and so had only 90 pages of it left for today. All in all, I’m quite satisfied with 390 pages for today.

  11. I’m glad you could participate, even if you weren’t able to spend all 24 hours reading. I had a lot of fun with it, and it seems like you did too!

  12. Hi Iris! Still great that you were able to participate, no matter how little. I wanted to so bad but was working and then afterwards visiting friends for someone’s birthday, so had no chance at all. I might do my own readathon soon, by myself, just because I miss it, ha ha.
