In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. You can find more information about it here.
I arrived home on Friday, 11.30 PM after 19 hours of travel (it was supposed to be only 9-10 hours) and I didn’t get the chance to look around my apartment. I was SO tired, I went to sleep almost right away. But Saturday morning (or rather, when I woke up around 11 AM) I got the chance to look through all of the parcels that arrived during the 4 months I spent in Sweden. It was an amazing prospect, just look at them:
I cannot begin to describe my excitement while unwrapping these parcels. I made funny high noises several times. If you’d like to know what was in these parcels, take a look at my vlog.. Or if you’d rather skip that, I have added a list of the books below:
Books received for review:
- Janis Joplin: Rise Up Singing – Ann Angel
- Warm Bodies – Isaac Marion
- The Last Letter From Your Lover – Jojo Moyes
Books received from Amanda at Floor To Ceiling Books:
- Soulless – Gail Carriger
- Changeless – Gail Carriger
- The Poison Throne by Celine Kiernan
- Betrayals by Lili St. Crow
Books Received from Amy Reads:
- Bite the Stars – Eliza Clark
- Blood Lily – Mason Cranswick
- Luna – Julie Anne Peters
- Manhood for Amateurs – Michael Chabon
- Boy Meets Boy – David Levithan
- Our Tragic Universe – Scarlett Thomas
- Last Night in Montreal – Emily St. John Mandel
Book received from Kathleen of SMS Book Reviews:
- Saplings – Noel Streatfeild
Books received from Lydia at The Literary Lollipop:
- A Child of the Jago – Arthur Morrison
- Kamouraska – Anne Hébert
Book received from Amanda at One More Page:
- All I Want For Christmas – Amy Silver
Book received from Giarnese Family of Desperate House Scribes:
- The Thirteenth Tale – Diane Setterfield
Book received from Frances of Nonsuch Book:
- Tender Morsels – Margo Lanagan
It is such a great list and I’m incredibly excited to read them all. Actually, I have spent half of yesterday unpacking and the other half staring at my bookshelves and all the books that I cannot wait to read. Maybe I should join the TBR challenge? I don’t know. I don’t think I could..

You don’t actually look tired, you know
Loved the vlog as always. Enjoy your new books! There are some real gems in there. Also, could book bloggers be any more generous? Looking forward to hearing all about your Persephone and Holiday Swap gifts!

What a nice thing to come home to! (Welcome back by the way…) That is a really juicy stack of reads. I think you will like The Thirteenth Tale. It’s got everything you need.
What great books! I love that picture of the packages.
And great vlog as always!!
Love the vlog Iris! And you must be so happy to be back home. And see all those parcels waiting for you! There’s a nice mix of books there. I’m especially interested in hearing more about Kamouraska. I read ‘Our Tragic Universe’ which I really liked this year. It’s a standalone, so you don’t need to read anything else by Thomas to understand it. However I do recommend her previous novel, ‘The End of Mr. Y’ which was just amazing.
Unwrapping all those books just sounds like so much fun! And great vlog – I agree with Ana – you don’t look tired at all!
ooh lucky you, so many goodies especially The Thirteenth Tale which is a real treat. I also have Saplings and the Jojo Moyes on wish list. Delighted to see that you have arrived home safe and sound…looks like the snow will prevent some folk getting home this Christmas..
Oh, Soulless and The Poison Throne are on my list—I hope you like them!
wonderful selection and a real treat to come home too ,all the best stu
Hi Iris,
Just watched your vlog….you Lucky Girl! I hope you have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the Thirteenth Tale as much as I did. So glad it arrived intact.
Toni
WOW!!! I’m not sure I have anything to add except WOW.
Enjoy The Thirteenth Tale. Loved the book and it’s deliciously bookish.
That is so fun! Like everyone else, I recommend The Thirteenth Tale sooner than later, it was wonderful.
I think this is my first time seeing your vlog – nice to finally meet you
You look great and not tired at all.
What amazing book loot to come home to. Now comes the fun part right, finding a spot for all the books. Enjoy them.
Girl, I’ll just call in all my friends over to see that pile, LOL! I should say, WOW – makes going away from home so much more worthwhile! Enjoy your books!
Hope you enjoy all your new books. You look happy to be home!
Huge list of books to come home to. Congratulations on arriving home safe and sound.
Wow, what a great pile of books you received! Won’t you get reading stress???
Looking forward to your reading & reviewing of Scarlett Thomas (The End of Mr Y. was a fun book to read) and, especially, Michael Chabon. I haven’t read the book you mention yet, but he is an amazing author!
So wonderful to see you vlogging! Welcome home! A tower of book packages…what a happy sight to come home to
There are so many great books in there and I can’t wait to see what you think! Enjoy!
I love vlogging! Read on, dear girl.

What a nice surprise after such a long day of travelling (and you look far nicer than I do after having been on the go for so long – I start resembling a surly homeless person)! Looking forward to your post about your Persephone and Blogger Swap packages – your pronunciation of Persephone is really very close, so don’t worry about it
Welcome home! I thought my twelve hours of traveling was bad, but nineteen seems horrid. At least the places I was flying through in the US don’t freak out about snow.
You had much more exciting mail than I did when you got home! I got the joy of opening bills.
Love the vlog!
I don’t think you looked tired at all! What a great pile of books to come home to, you won a lot of giveaways!
I really loved The Thirteenth Tale so am interested in hearing your thoughts on it. Also – I’ve heard a lot of great things about Tender Morsels – I hope you enjoy it!!
As for the books I sent, Blood Lilly is set in Zimbabwe
And Luna and Boy Meets Boy are both GLBTQ so hooray for that! I didn’t read Our Tragic Universe (I started it and was bored so just mailed it to you instead, heh) so hopefully you like it more. Don’t feel compelled to finish any of them if they suck or aren’t doing it for you! I only promote guilt free pleasure reading
Welcome home!
Such awesomeness to come home to! (Welcome back, by the way.)

Iris!!! What an awesome vlog! I love your English! It’s so fantastic! I’m so glad that you are vlogging. I think it’s kind of addicting. When I get some time to myself I’m going to vlog again. I just don’t want my family to hear me talking to myself in my room. That would be awkward since none of them look at my blog.
I’m so glad you got such great loot. It must have been a really nice present to come home to. Glad you are back home in The Netherlands too.
